Abstract: The purpose of the research were: ecological and hygienic assessment of the radiation situation in various parts of the Kaluga region after the Chernobyl accident; assessment of morbidity of the most contaminated areas of the region; and experimental study of structural and cytogenetic damage in critical systems of laboratory animals being under long-term influence of high-level background radiation.
