Abstract: ► A forecasting model of the atmospheric radioactivity was developed. ► The model was applied successfully in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. ► Initial measurements of the airborne ¹³⁷Cs activity density over 4.5 y were used. ► Predictions were compared with measurements of a later period with good agreement.
