Reference: Article, Obninsk, Russia, 2010

Abstract: Purpose of the study: to conduct clinical and experimental studies to evaluate genome damage of lymphocytes under development of pathological conditions caused by exposure to radiation in comparison with other damaging factors.

Subject of the present research are:

1. To study the frequency of chromosomal aberrations (CA) and micronuclei (MN) in peripheral blood lymphocytes after exposure in vitro.

2. To determine the dependence of induction of apoptotic lymphocytes by irradiation, using samples of human blood in vitro and experiments of laboratory animals in vivo.

3. To identify the dose dependence of stable CA in humans and monkeys by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

4. To investigate the effect of irradiation on the level of CA and MN in patients with impaired thyroid homeostasis.  etc.

Radionuclide contamination territories in the Republic of Dagestan and evaluation of public exposure

Author: Kadieva Aliphan Yusupovich

Reference: Dissertation, Obninsk, 2010

Keywords: Republic of Dagestan

Abstract: Our aim is to rate annual and cumulative effective doses of the whole body of the population in the Republic of Dagestan on the basis of measurements of radioactive contamination of the soil, dose rate in air and information about soil types and diets in various regions of the Republic. Practically there are no published data on the levels of radioactive contamination of the Republic of Dagestan, which would be based on data of instrumental measurements, not only on data of mathematical modeling of transport of radioactive substances into the atmosphere after the Chernobyl accident. Therefore, refinement (correction), detailed research (detailing) and analysis of the real picture of radioactive fallout in the Republic of Dagestan, using research data of annual instrumental measurements after the Chernobyl accident (as well as in the pre-accident period), and assessments based on the radiation doses, are of urgent need.

Abstract: We tried the decontamination of surface soils for three types of agricultural land at Nagadoro district of Iitate-mura (village) in Fukushima Prefecture, which is highly contaminated by deposits of radionuclides from the plume released from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The decontamination method consisted of the peeling of surface soils solidified using a polyion complex, which was formed from a salt solution of polycations and polyanions. Two types of polyion complex solution were applied to an upland field in a plastic greenhouse, a pasture, and a paddy field. The decontamination efficiency of the surface soils reached 90%, and dust release was effectively suppressed during the removal of surface soils.

The state of health of liquidators according to RSMDR (Russian State Medical Dosimetric Registry): dynamics of disease and its nosological structure

Author: AP Biryukov, SI Ivanov, NE Meskikh, ZG Kruglov

Reference: Радиация и риск (Radiation and Risk): 1999 Issue no. 11

Keywords: liquidators

Abstract: The present work is related to the first-discovered diseases among the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident, for the period between 1991 and 1996. Analyses on incidences were conducted for the basic classes of diseases among the liquidators, from different regions in Russia, in comparison with identical diseases of the non-exposed population of Russia.

Evaluation of radiation and non-radiation risk non-neoplastic diseases of the thyroid gland by a case-control technology

Author: Vlasov DC, Schukina NV, Chekin SYu, Godko AM

Reference: Радиация и риск (Radiation and Risk): 2003 Number S1

Keywords: risk, a case-control

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the existence of a statistical relationship between non-cancerous thyroid disease in the population of the Orel region with various environmental factors such as radiation due to contamination with radionuclides after the Chernobyl accident, as well as non-radiation factors. As for non-radiation factors, traditional study of iodine deficiency, as measured by the content of stable iodine in the urine, was carried out, as well as studies of the chemical nature of factors that lead to an increase in the number of genetic mutations or chromatid aberrations in human somatic cells.

The dose and the risks from water use by people of South-Western Bryansk region

Title: The dose and the risks from water use by people of South-Western Bryansk region

Author: Katkova Margarita Nikolaevna

Reference: Radioation and Lisk 2008 vol.17 No.1

Keywords: dose exposure,    Water use,    risk,    radionuclides of 90Sr and 137Cs,    Chernobyl accident

Abstract: In the present work the estimation of risk for the population of southwest areas of Bryansk region exposed to radiation fallout after Chernobyl accident is carried out. The life risk of disease for the population of the specified areas is estimated by a cancer through a dose received from water use. The basic ways of radionuclide receipt in an organism of inhabitants of southwest areas of Bryansk region on a water chain are: an external exposure from polluted flood-land of water body, consumption of water from the sources of the drinking water supply located in the polluted zone, and consumption of fish caught from a local water body. As object of research the population living in area of Lake Kozhanovskoe is accepted. The contribution of radionuclides o f9 Sr and 137Cs in a total dose from water use is estimated. Priority sources of risk for the population from water use to which it is necessary to pay special attention at carrying out of protective actions in the specified territories are revealed.
